During the Vietnam War US bases in Japan hosted large numbers of troops. A network of citizens offered support to US deserters and helped them to move overseas.
Taketomo Takahashi gave up his teaching job at Rikkyo University to take part in this network. In 2007 he published a book relating his experiences.
